Had been scrambling yesterday to find a solution to the apparent disability to network my XP desktop and my Vista notebook. Finally pinpointed the problem on Norton Internet Security 2007 in Vista. You have to go to the Internet Security and Firewall Options > Trust Control and then add your gateway and the AP to your Trusted zone. That does the trick and now my XP talks to Vista
